The Italian foundation for the recovery from Thalassemia was created in 1992 with the aim of promoting the “Progetto Guarigione” (Recovery Project), which purpose is to collect economic resources in order to fund research projects for the identication, testing and, where necessary, improvement of new and final treatments for thalassemia, which are performed in the main Italian centres. The Foundation coordinates a national network comprising 83 Italian Associations for thalassemia, which support the foundation financially and scientifically. Following such aims, the contribution of the Giambrone Foundation in of the project will be mainly focused on a contribution in the definition of social demands of children affected by rare diseases and of their families and the definition and validation of an instrument for the evaluation of their quality of life with regards to the social dimension.
