The DEEP project has received research funding from the European Union under the 7th Framework Programme
The centre was created in 1994 and is involved in the management of hematopathology conditions and all indications for bone marrow transplantation, regarding hematology diseases. The pediatric hematology department in the centre is taking in charge hemoglobinopathies and other haemolytic anemias. More than 600 patients, including 210 b-thalassemia major and 350 sickle cell syndromes, are treated as out-patients, receiving all the needed medication (blood transfusion, iron chelation, etc.). Immune deficiency syndromes are also followed in the centre.
